pierre thomas has the latest this morning from washington. pierre, what do we know. >> reporter: the fbi said that the suspect had deadly intentions. according to authorities adel daoud b, age, 18, prayed as often as possible. on friday night. the fbi said with the bar full of people at one of the busiest times of the evening, daoud stood a block away and squeezed a trigger that he thought would detonate a bomb. it was a sting. the bomb was a fake. and he was arrested. >> pierre, how did police find this guy? >> fbi officials said that he came to their attention last october, after he began posting violent messages on the internet. a few months later, fbi uncovered agents posing as radicals contacted daoud. discussions began about jihad, he allegedly planning an attack and looking at potential targets. the fbi said that he even did surveillance on the bar, dan. >> sounds like he wanted to take this as far as he possibly could. >> pierre thomas, our chief justice correspondent, reporting from washington. thank you, pierre. >>> we'll turn to that breaking news overseas. four u.s. soldiers

in a tense situation. but it was a hoax, apparently caused by a relationship gone bad. this morning, the fbi's investigating whether this scene was all just a vicious prank, possibly by a woman scorned. it all began at 7:30 a.m. thursday, at philadelphia international airport. an ominous tip came in to police. there was a male passenger at the airport with explosives. authorities quickly discovered the passenger, identified as christopher shell, was on u.s. air flight 1267, which had already taken off for dallas. fearing the man had snuck a bomb onboard, the plane was ordered back to philadelphia. shell had no clue. he wrote on his facebook page. we spent an hour in the air before the plane had technical difficulties and had to turn back. upon return, the plane was met by an army of fbi and philadelphia tactical teams. >> five guys came on the plane loaded and guns drawn. you see the guy's rifle coming up alongside my face. about that time, he did an abrupt 90-degree turn and pointed it at the guy sitting next to me. >> reporter: the drama continued as an exhaustive search was conducted. aft

, what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning, kate. we understand that an fbi team of special agents has arrived here in benghazi. they're keeping a low profile for security reasons and are expected to at some point begin investigating what exactly happened at that consulate. they're going to sift through the ashes and look for any clues that can identify any individuals involved in that attack. we know that the u.s. military has deployed its resources, including drones and other intelligence gathering mechanisms to try to keep an eye and ear out for any of these people involved. they're getting a lot of cooperation from the libyan government. the libyan government says that they believe this was a pre-planned attack, not an outburst of spontaneous violence. and they're also saying that they have four individuals in custody that they are questioning who may have possibly important information that could benefit the americans. they also have several other individuals under surveillance. but as we've seen in the past, one of the more difficult things here on the ground is to actually m
